As a Super 8 wedding videographer in Colorado (and beyond), I love how couples are embracing the warm, cinematic feeling of Super 8 films for their wedding day.
Do you recall the early days of home video? The videos were grainy at best. Oftentimes, they showcased the date flashing in the lower corner of the screen during playback. Early versions of recording devices were oversized hand-held camcorders with full-size VHS tape compartments. But as time marched on, camcorders became more refined and offered digital recordings. Something about the video footage captured on those seemingly archaic devices was so pure, wasn’t it? It was a time before mobile devices and social media dominated our world. Instead of uploading a short clip recorded on your phone to share with your friends and family around the world in an instant, we would be left to gather around the VCR to watch the latest family wedding, school play, or holiday celebration.
Nearly 45 years after the very first iteration of the camcorder was patented, the beloved grainy nostalgia of home videos has begun making a comeback through weddings. More and more, couples are embracing the idea of Super 8 wedding films to capture distinct aspects of their day. Being a Super 8 wedding videographer means working side by side with these couples to embrace the raw, unfiltered emotions of their day through a retrospective storytelling lens.
This allows me, as your Super 8 wedding videographer, to keep the focus of your wedding day centered on the importance of your shared emotions. Completely unfiltered and filled with beauty. The beauty of Super 8 wedding films is that there is no space for posing and no need for prompting. It’s entirely centered around authentic movement driven only by the love at the center of your union. Photography will forever be my preferred medium for capturing a wedding. However, Super 8 films are an exquisite pairing that embolden the storytelling aspect of your day.
In particular, one of the delightful elements of Super 8 wedding films lies in its ability to draw on surroundings. Weddings set against the majestic backdrop of the Colorado mountains evoke the warm hues of the natural setting. Thus allowing you to step back into each moment of your wedding day again and again. Furthermore, couples celebrating their recent engagement are adding Super 8 films to their engagement session. Allowing them to relive the joy they shared when embracing the decision to take the next step in their journey.
